Macmillan Cancer Coffee Morning
ghd partnership held another coffee morning on 23rd September 2011 to raise both awareness of the charity and monies for this worthwhile charity. Although the partners of ghd partnership have never had a need to use the charity, there were many who attended the event that had firsthand experience of the support offered by Macmillan Cancer Support.
The partners made all the cakes and donated all the prizes for the raffle and raised a total of £263.00. ghd partnership would like to thank all those who either attend the event and those that kindly donated afterwards for their time and generous donations and look forward to holding another another coffee morning next year.
SOLENT EBP
On Wednesday 17th November 2010 the partners of ghd partnership visited Hardley School and Sixth Form in Holbury, Southampton in conjunction with the Solent EBP as part of the Women's Enterprise Day. The purpose of the visit was to raise the aspirations of the girls by getting them to interact with 'women in business'. This was undertaken by a brief talk about the partners' backgrounds and the formation of the practice along with a short interactive activity. We carried out presentations to groups of 15 girls currently in Year 11. The girls were split in to working groups of approximately 6 and they were provided with materials and a brief project description for them to consider designs for an external school play area. The partners were on hand to give guidance to the students. The project set was an actual project currently being undertaken by ghd partnership. We found the morning successful and some of the girls appeared interested in design elements of the business and were offered the opportunity of work experience at the partnership.
National Apprenticeship Scheme
On the 8th February 2011 Heather Nutbourne and Leigh-Ann Cooper attended the NAS (National Apprenticeship Scheme) "Meet the employer" event at Eastleigh College. It was a well attend event by both school and college age pupils. The event was aimed to encourage pupils and their parents to consider developing their chosen career through an Apprenticeship route, so that they can earn whilst they learn. ghd partnership are keen to promote apprenticeships especially within the construction industry. ghd partnership advised many pupils to consider a voluntary placement within a professional office which could be considered during the full time courses at Eastleigh College. ghd partnership currently have a volunteer who visits the office to gain valuable experience of working in a busy architectural and surveying practice. In the short term our volunteer has already gained experience in surveying properties and drawing work using AutoCAD. The partners are also there to assist with his training and ensure that he is introduced to various projects and schemes undertaken by the partnership.
Prior to the event Eastleigh College representatives visited ghd partnership offices to interview the partners and staff to determine the benefits of using apprentices within the business. News articles were then published within local magazines and newspapers.
